"I was born in Charleston, S.C. and grew up
with country music and big band music. My Mom liked the big band
music, and my Dad, being a guitar player and singer as well, liked country
music. And so, I learned to appreciate different genres of music. I was singing
at three. As I grew older, I learned to sing with others in three part
harmony. When eleven, I entered two talent shows singing Elvis's early
hits of, "You Aint Nothin' But A Hound Dog" ,''Tutie Fruitie'' and ''Blue
Suede Shoes''. When twelve, my Dad bought me my first guitar. I also play the mandolin and banjo.
showed me three chords and by six weeks, I was playing almost anything I
wanted. By age fifteen, I was in a number of rock n' roll bands. We got in
to Motown Music, then heavy in to the Beatles, Rolling Stones. After
getting married at twenty-two,I put my music on hiatus for almost five
years.And at thirty-five,I found a new sound,''bluegrass music''. Been a
rabid fan of that music since, and am still playing it every chance I
get. The last twenty years, I worked as a welder on our Navy ships, air
craft carriers and submarines.I traveled all over the U.S.working as a
contract welder for the Navy meeting musicians along the way.
retiring, I have been doing a lot of song writing and voluntary work. I
was recently accepted as an entertainer/guitar teacher for the Veteran's
Hospital in Charleston,South Carolina (a dream come true) . I also do benefit shows
for convalescent homes as well.
